NGO Vivosano schrijft Europese ombudsman aan om slecht bestuur Europese Commissie aan te klagen

www.env-health.org - "Vivosano representing health, environmental, citizens and occupation/workers organisations has written to the European Ombudsman to file a complaint about maladministration.

Their concerns focused on the unprecedented global exposures to artificial electromagnetic fields (EMF) classified as possible carcinogenic type 2B by the WHO. This is expressed as a matter of urgency for the health of EU citizens, wildlife and the environment.

As the EU Commission is responsible to actively protect people's health and the environment, Vivosano kindly asked European Ombudswoman Emily O'Reilly to recognise the potential dangerous risks of electromagnetic fields for European citizens and to recognise the overwhelming evidence of these dangers.

The EU should take the necessary steps to reflect this and in particular call on the EU Commission to implement specific precautionary measures at three levels through a Council Recommendation.

Geen wifi of 4G op de trein!

In januari 2014 stuurde Beperk de Straling een brief naar de NMBS om onze bezorgdheid te uiten over de plannen voor WiFi of 4G op de trein. Wij kregen een antwoord waarin de NMBS kortweg aangeeft dat de geldende blootstellingsnormen gerespecteerd zullen worden.

In juli 2014 stuurden wij dan ook een nieuwe brief, waarin we aangeven dat hun antwoord niet in staat is om onze bezorgdheid weg te nemen. De kern van die bezorgdheid is immers dat de huidige stralingsnormen ontoereikend zijn en niet geschikt om de menselijke gezondheid op een adequate manier te beschermen.

In ons schrijven onderstrepen we de noodzaak om op zijn minst ook coupés te voorzien zonder wifi of 4G-signaal.

Zeker niet álle reizigers hebben immers behoefte aan internet op de trein en het lijkt ons cruciaal, in het licht van de wetenschappelijke onzekerheid en het onvermogen van de NMBS of enige andere instantie om de onschadelijkheid van WiFi te garanderen, om mensen de vrije keuze te laten om al dan niet in een WiFi/4G-coupé plaats te nemen. Met een icoon op de wand van de wagon zou men makkelijk kunnen aangeven of het al dan niet gaat om een coupé met WiFi/4G.

In februari 2016 gaat het proefproject wifi op de trein van start. Indien de NMBS de treinreizigers de mogelijkheid/keuze ontzegt om plaats te nemen in wifi-vrije wagons zonder ongewenste stralingsblootstelling, zullen wij met andere verenigingen bekijken welke stappen wij kunnen ondernemen om ons grondwettelijk recht op een gezond leefmilieu alsnog te kunnen laten gelden. Wij zullen zeker ook niet nalaten om treinreizigers actief te informeren over de risico's verbonden aan overmatige stralingsblootstelling op de trein.

Brussels parlement stemt in met versoepeling stralingsregels voor 4G

Surfen op een 4G-netwerk gaat veel sneller dan met de technologieën van de tweede en derde generatie. De strenge Brusselse normen maakten van de hoofdstad echter een blinde vlek, wat voormalig Belgacom-topman Didier Bellens zijn beruchte 'fuck you'-uitspraken ontlokte.
